IMG_4839IMG_4801Hooray! Our sixth anniversary run/walk is happening on Saturday August 27th! Once again, the ferry dock at Bowen Island will be crowded with participants ranging from two to eighty years old!

Kids from toddlers to nine years old will be running or walking the 1.5km route through Crippen Park at 8:30 am and receiving shiny medals and delicious snacks as soon as they make it through the finish line. Their mums, dads or grandparents can do the course with them too!

At 9:00 am, the 5km and 10km people take off, so parents who do the first run with their kids can do both! There is very little tarmac on this run as it meanders through Crippen Park to Killarney Lake and back to Snug Cove. 10km runners do the course twice and return to the finish line in front of the Bowen Island Public Library. After enjoying fruit, muffins and a refreshing drink of water, runners attend the prize-giving ceremony. There are gift certificates from our athletics sponsor, The Run Centre by Kintec, plus gifts from local merchants and lots of attractive gifts from Rwanda. There will be prizes for the first girl and boy home in the nine-and-under category, plus this year a new category for teens taking part in the 5km and10km runs.

We are looking forward to a great day where we will be gathering funds for our Komera girls who entered the program this year. Special thanks to our major financial sponsor, Paragon Financial.

Come and join on Saturday August 27th, then watch the Bowfest parade from the Library lawn, and on to the fairgrounds to enjoy the music and fun of our island festival! You may even win a free entry to the day’s events!
